Research

Biological evaluation of potential urease inhibitors against both purified enzyme and whole cells of microorganisms, including known pathogens for which urease acts as a virulence factor (e.g. Cryptococcus neoformans, Proteus mirabilis, Helicobacter pylori). Among the studied compounds are catechol-based phosphonates and phosphinates, 1,2-benzisoselenazol-3(2H)-one derivatives, flavonoids and thiourea derivatives. In addition to urease inhibition measurement, the influence of the compounds on the viability of pathogens is evaluated as well.
